I often disgust myself with my obsession with romantic movies (see here) and tonight was no exception. I watched The Romantics (I know… how apropos!) and if you’re wondering why you’ve never heard of it, it’s because it didn’t get great reviews and was one of those indie flicks they only play in select theaters. Personally, I found the movie to be kind of beautiful and it had quite a few winning moments, like this line:
“Unrequited love is the perfect romantic construct. It allows two cowardly people to act out a fantasy of love without having to face any real consequences.”
I’ve always been an unfortunate (read: hopeless) lover of the idea of romance, grand gestures, and movies about love. From When Harry Met Sally to It’s A Wonderful Life to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I watch them all repeatedly and live vicariously through each and every gorgeous cinematic moment as they unfold (other classic
girly sob-fest favorites include Titanic and The Notebook but I figured those go without saying).
I happened upon the trailer for Like Crazy, seen below, and it seems to have the makings of a beautiful piece – bound to make me cry and wallow in self-pity. Yet I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Also, listen to this song by Ben Rector – it’s brilliant and it’s the inspiration behind the title of this post.
